‘Coach’ Cody tapped as chair of county elections board

Plymouth resident Robert “Coach” Cody is now Chairman of Washington County’s Board of Elections (BOE), following appointments to all 100 county boards statewide by North Carolina Auditor Dave Boliek were announced last week.

The county board’s five-member alignment also shifts slightly, with Republican Roger West joining the group and Democrat Melinda Porter pared from the roster.

The changes stem from North Carolina legislation approved in 2024 that transfers authority to appoint county chairs and state BOE members from the governor to the state auditor, based on input from statewide and county party leaders.
