Deputies work for town 863 hours over five months

Finance Officer Missy Dixon updated Washington County Commissioners on several issues last week — including the numbers surrounding the sheriff’s office work to prop up police presence in the Town of Plymouth.

Dixon also provided insight into the status of the county’s hospital pension fund, income from the sale of foreclosed property and the impact of a new policy to bill for EMS responses when the patients who refuse transport after treatment. Dixon’s reports are in response to questions raised by commissioners in recent monthly meetings.

According to finance office figures, sheriff’s deputies have worked 863 hours over a five-month period substituting for Plymouth Police Department since the town and county signed an MOU (Memorandum of Understanding) to address PPD’s long-standing insufficient staffing levels...
