North Edgecombe Warriors secured a solid 26-12 victory against the Washington County Panthers Varsity team Friday night during a highly competitive playoffs game.
Notably, Friday’s bout was not the first time the Panthers met the fearsome Warriors in open warfare. The Panthers previously defeated the North Edgecombe team twice earlier in the season, making their third match up one that the Warriors were eagerly awaiting.
The first quarter was highly competitive with the Panthers team being the first to draw blood and put some points on the scoreboard, going into the second quarter with a score of 0 – 6. However the warriors would make tremendous gains during the second outing, flipping the script on the Panthers and putting 14 points on the board and going into halftime with the score 14 – 6.
The North Edgecombe team continued to make gains after their return, increasing their points while the Panther’s stagnated. Plymouth’s Panthers managed to make strides during the final quarter, securing a touchdown of their own, but so did the Warriors… in spectacular fashion.
With only seconds left on the clock, a Panther’s pass was intercepted by a swift Warriors player, whom quickly dashed towards the end zone and scored a touchdown as the clock ran out. It was a maneuver so smooth that even some onlookers from the Panthers’ sideline applauded.
In the end, the warriors would close out their trilogy of rivalry with the Panthers with a score of 26 – 12.
