Columbia’s Sheena Moore is the proud owner of Sheena's Sweet Spot, a home based bakery that supplies all manner of specialized treats, for all occasions, to customers across the East.

For Moore, cooking and baking is tantamount to art, and is something she has been cultivating since her earliest days.

“I started baking when I was about seven years old. One of my aunts used to allow me to get her cookbooks and try out different recipes,” Moore recalls. “By seven years old I was cooking entire courses of breakfast and I was able to make things like homemade breadsticks and anything else I could think of. So, baking is something I’ve always loved to do and I’ve always felt at home in the kitchen.”

Cooking is also in Moore’s blood as both of her late parents were well known for this skill in the kitchen as well.

“My parents are both deceased now, but they were well known as some of the best cooks around,” she says proudly. “My mother used to do reservations for places and she had a lot of people that would still reach out to her even after she gave up that kind of work…so I got the cooking bug honestly.”

As such, it’s little surprise that after graduating from Columbia High School in 2002, she pursued culinary arts at Lenoir Community College in Kinston. For Moore, who has effectively been honing her skills for entire life, going through culinary school was effectively a cakewalk.

“It was pretty easy for me. I love to cook and I’ve been doing it since I was little,” she says. “For me, I was just doing more of what I already enjoyed, and I got to have the credentials and training to say that I could do it for a living.”

Moore would go on to graduate from Lenoir Community College in 2005 and would enjoy a significant posting at the Hilton.

“I ended up having an internship at the Hilton where I was working. We did several catering functions, where we would cater food for over 5,000 people and provide plated meals,” she recounts. “I actually worked there as one of the supervisors of the kitchen for a while.”

Throughout this time, Moore continued to bake and cook for herself as a hobby. However, it would be around seven years later that she would begin to take things to the next level...
