Washington County administrators expect to start interviewing candidates for the Emergency Management Coordinator (EMC) post left vacant by the resignation of Lance Swindell earlier this month.
Swindell, who manned the EMC post since 2020, ended his Washington County stint February 13, accepting an assignment with NC Forestry in Bertie County.
County Manager Curtis Potter says the EMC vacancy is expected to be brief.
“My understanding is we already have some applications and we expect more before we begin reviewing them later this month,” Potter says. “We plan to move quickly in filling the Emergency Management Coordinator position, probably as early as March, to reduce the amount of time in which we risk having a major event that requires active coordination...”
