Matthew ‘Cornelius’ Bowens Sr.
Matthew Cornelius Bowens Sr. died Sunday, February 8, 2026, at his home after a lengthy illness.
A service was held Saturday, February 14, at the Eastern NC and Virginia District Assembly in Roper.
Pastor Rev. Dr. Derrick Wilkins of Back Swamp Church of Christ, Williamston, was the eulogist.
Burial followed in Bowens Cemetery, Roper.
Paradise House of Funerals was in charge of arrangements.

Cecil Earl Downs Sr., 86, of Plymouth, died Tuesday, February 24, 2026, at ECU Health Medical Center in Greenville.
A memorial service was held Friday, February 27, at Plymouth Church of the Nazarene.
The family received friends at the church prior to the service.
Arrangements are by Maitland Funeral Home, Plymouth.
