50 years ago A photo ran in The Beacon of three heads of three county volunteer fire departments as they displayed checks for $300. Norman Furlough, president of the Mid County Ruritan Club, presented the checks to Chief Hilton Chesson of Creswell, Chief Ervin Hassell of Roper and Chief John Stillman of the Mid County Fire Department.
