Free OTC medicine preorders open for Tyrrell event
COLUMBIA — Preordering is now open for an NC MedAssist Mobile Free Pharmacy event that will pro vide free over-the-counter medicines in Tyrrell County on Friday, Oct. 2. The giveaway will be held from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Tyrrell Hall, 906 U.S. 64, Columbia. Available products include pain and allergy relievers, cold and cough medicines, digestive aids, vitamins, children’s medications and other common OTC products.
The event is open to North Carolina residents age 18 and older, with no other eligibility requirements. Participants who preorder can request products in ad vance and pick them up at the event. Orders may also be picked up for people unable to at tend. Walk-ins are welcome and advance registration is not required.

Poetry reading planned along Roanoke River
PLYMOUTH — Poet R.L. Brooks will present “Poetry Reading Along the Roanoke” at 6 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 10, at the Roanoke River Maritime Museum, 124 E. Water St., Plymouth. The public event is presented by America250 Washington County NC as part of local activities commemo rating the nation’s 250th anniversary.
Washington County commissioners meet Monday
PLYMOUTH — The Washington County Board of Commissioners will meet at 6 p.m. Monday, Sept. 14, in the commissioners’ board room at the County Manager’s Office, 116 Adams St., Plymouth. The meeting is open to the public.
Golf tournament to benefit family
JAMESVILLE — Jamesville Christian Church will hold a four-person superball golf tournament Thursday, Oct. 15, at Roanoke Country Club to support Jessica Watson and her family. The tournament begins with an 8:30 a.m. shotgun start. Entry is $300 per four-person team, and tee sponsorships are $100. A $25 mulligan package includes one mulligan and one tee buster per person. A 50/50 raffle and cash payout are planned. Box lunch, soft drinks and water will be provided.

Event pairs Awareness Walk with mental health resources, family activities
A 1.5-mile awareness walk through Plymouth starts at 8:30 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 12, followed by a variety of events from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Flowers Park on Water Street. The “Light the Way” event, sponsored by the Mar tin-Tyrrell-Washington Health Department, focuses on suicide prevention, awareness of the 988 Suicide and Crisis Lifeline, and the importance of mental health. Activities include raffles, free food, bounce houses and hands-on CPR training, along with a roster of health-related and community-based vendors on hand.
