Beginning next week, Washington County’s residential trash collection — Republic Services — will launch an updating and rebranding program for residential trash carts.
Starting Monday, September 28, older branded brown or green carts will be collected and replaced with newer properly-branded blue carts. The program is projected to be completed over the next year.
If trash carts are removed and not replaced for any reason, residents should contact Washington County Landfill at (252) 505-7055 or (252) 793-5615 for assistance.
As an additional reminder, County officials remind residents that curbside pickup for recycling was suspended earlier this year to help reduce the rising costs of curbside solid waste service. Residents may continue to bring recyclable materials to the county landfill at the end of Landfill Road at 1300 NC Hwy 308/Mackeys Road. Normal operating hours are Monday through Friday and the first Saturday of each month from 8:30 a.m. to noon and 1 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. Recyclable materials should be deposited in the designated dumpster.
