Samuel Patrick Sr.

Roper resident Samuel Patrick Sr. died Sunday, December 26, 2021. He was 84.

Bishop Daniel Gilliam Sr. officiated a service Friday, December 31, at Toodle’s Funeral Chapel in Plymouth. Burial followed in Shiloh Memorial Gardens.

Toodle’s Funeral Home handled arrangements.

Harry Thomas Phelps Sr.

Harry Thomas Phelps Sr., 81, of Columbia, died Monday, January 3, 2022, at his residence, surrounded by his loving family.

Born July 1, 1940, in Washington County, he was the son of the late Milton Claude Phelps and Alethia Picolia Allen Phelps and was preceded in death by his sisters, Ethel Phelps Womble Overton and Mildred Phelps Burch Nadeau; and brothers, Milton Harrell Phelps and Syd William Phelps.

Harry Thomas started his working career as a pipe fitter with Newport News Shipbuilding and later returned home to work with Weyerhaeuser Corporation as a maintenance supervisor until his retirement.

His love for farming led him to start his own farming operation, later became a real estate developer and was a member of Philippi Church of Christ.

His family includes the love of his life, his wife, Shirley Cooper Phelps of Columbia; sons, Harry T. "Tommy" Phelps Jr. and Michael Todd Phelps, both of Columbia, and Torrey Alan Phelps of Blounts Creek; sisters, Rena Mae Phelps Sexton of Creswell and Mary Alethia Phelps Coburn of Greenville; brothers, John Ireland Phelps of Saint Leonard, MD, Jerry Lee Phelps and Larry Wayne Phelps, both of Creswell; and grandchildren, Drew Phelps, Kristina Phelps, Wyatt Phelps, Harrison Phelps and Savannah Phelps.

A funeral service was held Friday, January 7, at Philippi Church of Christ Family Life Center, with Glenn Brickhouse, Jimmy Davenport and Thomas Biggs officiating. Burial followed in the church cemetery.

The family received friends following the service at the graveside and other times at the residence.

Arrangements are by Maitland Funeral Home, Creswell.

Walter Fulton Roberts III

Walter Fulton Roberts III, age 50, of Plymouth, died Friday January 7, 2022, at his residence.

He was born in Greenville on February 12, 1971, to Walter Fulton Roberts, Jr. and Diane Strickland Roberts. Fulton and was an IT (information technology) specialist with East Carolina Supply Company.

He loved live music, coffeehouses and trying new foods. New Orleans was his favorite vacation spot. He was a talented musician and enjoyed playing and collecting guitars.

He was a devoted son, brother, grandson and a doting uncle.

In addition to his parents, Walter and Diane, Fulton is survived by his sister, Anissa Roberts Potter and husband, Lee; nephews, Grayson Potter and Jack Potter; aunts, Carol R. Creekmore (Ted) and Cynthia Strickland Sykes; numerous cousins; and his East Carolina Supply family. Fulton will be missed by his beloved cat, Rebecca.

He was preceded in death by a sister, Heather Elizabeth Roberts; grandparents, Joe and Martha Strickland and Walter and Sarah Roberts; and uncle, Joe Strickland Jr.

A funeral was held Tuesday, January 11, at Twiford Memorial Chapel, officiated by Rev. Vicki Woolard. The service was livestreamed at www.facebook.com/TwifordFuneralHome. Visitation was held one hour prior to the service in the funeral home lobby.

A private burial will be held in the Roberts Family Cemetery, Shawboro.

Twiford Funeral Home, 405 East Church Street, Elizabeth City, NC 27909 is serving the family of Mr. Roberts.
