Washington County High School Band students received a master’s class in musical theory and helpful hints last week during a visit from one of Barton College’s professionals.
Shawn Wellman, Barton College’s Director of Bands, made a special visit Tuesday, November 15, where he provided a special afternoon session to a handful of students. Many of the afternoon’s lessons centered on mastery of timing and exercising synergy with their fellow band mates.
Notably, much of Wellman’s teachings consisted of small tweaks, such as the most practical way for the percussionists in the room to hold their sticks, in order to get the most out of any performance.
