Farming comes to town

Plymouth’s Ag Extension Director Rebecca Liverman brought the world of tilling soil, planting crops and harvesting produce to kids at Washington County Library during its ongoing summer reading program.

Whereas the library was filled with the often lively and loud performances by puppeteer Tarish Pipkins last week, Liverman’s presentation provided a more grounded arrangement on the world of agriculture.

Liverman began her program by gathering all the youngsters together as she read from a children’s book that provided a simplistic version of how farmers use seasons, technology and the tried-and-true wisdom of the past to reap their harvests.

Despite the read, many of the kids got a more than a little impatient with the informative reading. Instead, many of them kept their eyes peeled on what Liverman had brought along with her. It wasn’t long before the extension director relented and gave the kids exactly what they were itching to get to...
