Running, cooking and eating with figs in mind

Roper’s Spruill Farm Conservation Project hosted its third annual Fig Festival over the weekend, demonstrating that its new direction and destination as a local tourist hotspot is here to stay.

Increasingly, the festival’s morning offerings are gaining steam and garnering quite a bit of attention from those far outside of Roper’s borders.

Once the sun was up, a host of participants broke out their blankets and performed yoga routines beneath the warm morning rays, amid the fragrance of the fig orchards.

Not long afterwards, the festival hosted its second annual 5K run, an event that proved popular last year with fig and fitness enthusiasts, making its triumphant 7 a.m. return Saturday morning.
