County lands $1.1 million for dispatch upgrades

Washington County’s 911 operation banked a lion’s share of recently-announced state grants to fund equipment and facility improvements for public safety answering points (PSAPs) that answer emergency calls on behalf of North Carolina’s communities.

The North Carolina 911 Board recently awarded the county $1,146,885 for equipment upgrades and relocation of the dispatch center into a new emergency facility, scheduled for completion by August 2026.

Only a $1,570,108 grant to NC Hwy Patrol was larger in the $5.7 million round of PSAP funding...
