Well folks, that didn’t last long.
And honestly, I guess I should applaud Stephen A. Smith for holding out as long as he did.
I gave him a lot of credit during my last column but I was careful to leave the possibility open that he could fold under mounting pressure from the black community.
And fold he did ladies and gentleman.
In case you missed it, the famed ESPN commentator recently criticized Texas Representative Jasmine Crockett for being too obnoxious to effectively represent the priorities of her constituents in Congress. That small criticism led to an immense blow up that led to insults and threats of widespread cancellation.
It was enough that Smith, who initially stood his ground, ended up bending the knee and apologizing to remain in the good graces of the Democratic Party and the pro black sphere.
Initially I praised Smith because I personally believe that taking principled stands and having the courage to take the slings and arrows are virtues that are sorely lacking in our society today.
Indeed, when people have the courage to stand against the mob, it grants courage to others and creates positive opportunities for change in a political climate that has been mired in cowardice, which is the main enabler of madness our nation is consumed by.
And as you’ll see, Smith’s lack of courage and the Democratic Party’s lack of commonsense principles is just the recipe for the chaos that will drive us all to ruin.
As far as Smith is concerned, there was something darkly hilarious about him showing up on his live show and nursing a swollen jaw that he claims he got from an emergency dental surgery.
It’s almost like the pro black goons caught him slipping, busted him up and ‘persuaded’ him to get back in line.
And frankly, that would have been a better excuse to apologize on air rather than the weak one he provided.
At least then folks could look at him with a modicum of understanding and some sympathy for getting taken out back and beaten up by his so called friends.
And believe me, he must have gotten whooped pretty bad to have returned and pandered to prominent black women the way he did on air.
Smith didn’t pull any punches, even evoking the name of former First Lady Michelle Obama to drive home the point that he’s back on the right side of the aisle and making sure his progressive dues were paid.
His apology to Crockett was truly pathetic and it sets back all of the credibility he earned with a newer audience over the last few months.
Because if he thinks he’s going to get back to being invited to the cookout after this, he’s sadly mistaken.
Smith isn’t going to get his melanin back after months of taking centrists political positions and committing the cardinal sin of criticizing a black woman in power.
The damage has already been done and once your black card is gone, black leftists aren’t giving it back.
Of course, Smith might have done enough damage control to get someone to bring him a plate from the cookout, but he can kiss his personal invitation goodbye.
As I’ve written many times, leftists and pro blacks don’t differentiate between philosophies.
If you’re not a leftist, you’re the enemy.
Which means that for Smith, trying to circle back now has only succeeded in alienating his entire audience.
Progressives see him as a turncoat and those on the right understand that he can’t be trusted to hold true to his principles and stand firm in the truth...
