Washington County Recreation’s young Panthers clashed with the Currituck Titans during a series of back-to-back games Saturday November 1.
As with last week’s Saturday face-off against the visiting teams from Gates County, the Recreation Center’s Panthers found victory on several fronts.
Unfortunately, for the youngest of the Panthers, the Currituck Titans found an early victory, winning the 8 and Under slot by a score of 16–0.
However, the Panthers of the 9- and 10-year-old slot swept across the field, soundly defeating the Currituck Titans in a blowout game. Although both teams were fairly evenly matched in the first quarter, the Panthers began to score during the second outing, scoring their first touchdown with three minutes until halftime and finishing with a 8–0 score.
The Panthers team opened the third quarter strong with an early touchdown and proceeded to remain in firm control throughout the game’s finale, defeating the Titans 22–0.
According to Crystal Fulford, several players were standouts among the Panthers and helped make that victory possible. Kashmir Little scored six points and made a touchdown, Zayquan Rawls secured eight points, a 50-yard kick return and a two-point conversion and, finally, Semaj Jenkins put up eight points, contributing a 50-yard punt return and a two-point conversion.
The Panther’s 12-year-old team had a tough match up against the Titans, going into a double overtime game. Notably, player Titus Sunderland made the touchdown for the Panthers but both teams ultimately walked away with an even score of 6-6.
