AHOSKIE — Washington County Middle School’s girls’ track and field team claimed second place in the Coastal Athletic Conference meet held Friday, April 24, at Hertford County High School in Ahoskie.

The girls’ team scored 40 points overall, while Martin County Middle School won with 42 points on a hot, sometimes rainy afternoon. As the clouds cleared and a rainbow appeared over the venue, it was announced that Hertford Middle School’s boys team won with an overall score of 54.5 points, followed by Chowan Middle in second with 44.5 points.
