David Edward Sawyer Jr.
David Edward Sawyer Jr., 93, of Plymouth, NC, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, September 29, 2026, at his residence, surrounded by his loving family.
Edward was born on November 1, 1932, in Tyrrell County to the late David Edward Sawyer Sr. and Gladys Furlough Sawyer.
He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Joyce Davenport Sawyer; his son, David Edward Sawyer III; and his sister, Virginia Jewell.
Edward was a devoted follower of Christ and a longtime member of Plymouth United Methodist Church, where he was very active and faithfully served in nu merous roles throughout the years, including 10 years on the Administra tive Board. He loved his church and church family and especially treasured the many friendships he made there. After many years of dedicated service, Ed ward retired from Weyer haeuser. He became very active in the Plymouth Lions Club after retiring and enjoyed giving back to his community. A kind and generous man, Edward was always willing to help others. Above all, Edward was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather who took tremendous pride in his family. He taught them by example to be independent, work hard, stay strong, and, as Edward would have it, not be afraid to worry a little along the way.
He freely shared his skills and knowledge and was always willing to lend a helping hand. Edward was an exceptionally kind, caring, and gracious man who had a way of making everyone feel like part of his family. Those who knew him considered it an honor to have been a part of his life. His kindness and generosity touched count less lives, and this world is a better place because he was in it. His family takes comfort in knowing that Heaven has gained another saint.
Edward is survived by his daughters, Donna Ritter (Jack) of Williamston, NC, and Angie Sherrill (Bobby) of Meridian, MS; brothers, Ted Sawyer (Jane) of Smithfield, NC, and Billy Sawyer of Moses Lake, WA; grand children, Ashley Hollo way (Andy), Dr. Cam eron Sherrill (Mollie), and Brittany Hill; and great-grandchildren, Savannah Holloway, Su mer Holloway, Henry Hill, Maddox Hill, and Jack Sherrill.
Services will be held Saturday, October 3, 2026, at Plymouth United Methodist Church with Reverend Vickie Woolard officiating. The family will receive friends from 2:00 to 2:45 p.m. in the fellowship hall, followed by a funeral service at 3:00 p.m. in the sanctuary. Interment will follow at Hillside Memorial Gardens.

John ‘Jack’ Oliver Kramp
John (Jack) Oliver Kramp, 84, of Blairsville, GA (most recently residing in Columbia, NC), passed away on Wednes day, September 30, 2026, at his residence with family by his side. Jack w a s born in Miami, FL, on Feb ruary 6, 1942, to the late Oscar Booth Kramp and Helen Giordano Kramp.
On August 12, 1967, he married Toby Lee Harris, who preceded him in death.
A proud veteran, Jack served his country in the U.S. Navy before dedi ating 30 years of service as a police officer with the Miami Metro-Dade Police Department.
He is survived by his sister, Ann Sheehan of Lilburn, GA; his brother, Oscar Kramp of Weston, FL; and sister, Laura Wil banks of Miami, FL; his children: Tracy Anderson and husband Tommy of Columbia, NC, Angela Hall and husband Kevin of Hobe Sound, FL, Tad Kramp and wife Kelly of Archdale, NC, and Amy Southards and husband Brian of High Point, NC. He is also survived by his grandchildren: Perry II, Mary-Madalena, Cheyenne, and Lily; his great-grandchildren: Ol ivia, Perry III, and War ren; and many nieces and nephews whom he deeply loved.
Besides his beloved wife, Jack was preceded in death by his grandson, John Brooks; and his parents.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. Arrangements are by Bryan Funeral Service, Columbia, NC.
Thomas Wilkins Trustee
Thomas Wilkins, 78, of Roper, NC., passed away Monday September 28, 2026, at VA Medical Center, Durham, NC.
Funeral services with military rites was held at 1 p.m. Saturday October 3, 2026, at Bethel Church of Christ (Disciples of Christ) with Bishop Samuel Smith, pastor, Elder Derrick Wilkins, officiating. Burial followed in Wilkins Memorial Garden Cemetery, Roper. Viewing was 12 to 1 p.m. Saturday at the church.
