Only a handful of residents turned out for last week’s forum for candidates in the upcoming Town of Plymouth municipal election. On top of that, nearly a third of the candidates were also no-shows.
The dismal response triggered disappointment in Wesley Stokes, whose group, Washington County Think Tank for Community Solutions, sponsored the exchange for mayoral and town council candidates.
“We see complacency tonight,” Stokes said at the conclusion of the forum. “People will complain about things, but they are not here tonight.”
Despite the dismal attendance, Stokes complimented the candidates in attendance and suggested Plymouth voters have a good crop of candidates from which to choose.
The forum was divided into two separate parts, with mayoral candidates Shawn Hawkins and Brian Roth answering questions from the forum’s panel in the first round and seven candidates for council seats in three separate wards taking the floor for the second round...
