Plymouth’s own Victor Armstrong has been selected as the 2025 National Social Worker of the Year courtesy of the National Association of Social Workers (NASW).
A 26 year veteran of NASW, Armstrong has been recognized for his decades long leadership and excellence in the realm of public mental health, suicide prevention and health equity.
Notably, Armstrong became the first Chief Health Equity Officer for the North Carolina Department of Health and Human services and is the vice president for Health Equity and Engagement with the American Foundation for Suicide prevention.
With over 30 years of experience in human services, Armstrong has made it his mission to build and strengthen community resources in order to assist traditionally marginalized groups.
In March 2020 Armstrong was named director of the Division of Mental Health, Developmental Disabilities, and Substance Abuse Services at the North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services (NCDHHS).
