School vendors will handle substitutes, maintenance

Substitute teacher staffing for Washington County schools is now in the hands of a third party provider and school board members are considering the addition of an outside vendor to boost custodial care for the district’s new consolidated school.

In May, WCS hired Educational Staffing Services (ESS) to manage the recruitment, employment of and provision of substitutes for the district.

The agreement saves WCS money, says Chief Personnel Officer Michael Yancey, while relieving WCS administrative burdens.

At its June 10 meeting, the board heard from HES Facilities Management about a proposal to implement a similar program aimed at custodial and/or groundskeeping services.
