Getting ready for Trick or Treat on Water Street

Organizers of a Halloween extravaganza are recruiting gifts of individually-wrapped candy in preparation for the annual event that cloaks Water Street in alternating visions of whimsy and spookiness for All Hallows Eve.

Trick or Treat on Water Street begins at 5:30 p.m., Friday, October 31, and runs through 7:30 p.m. at a gauntlet of stops at downtown businesses and those of participating community members.

Interested community vendors should contact Sherri Gilliam or Brenda Drake by calling (252) 793-5437. Downtown spaces are free. The only requirement is to distribute candy to children.

Other supporters are encouraged to contribute packages of individually wrapped treats, since too much is never enough when it comes to Halloween candy. Gifts can be dropped at Stella’s Café, Riverview Café, Garden Spot Café or at the Tyrrell Washington Partnership for Children office at 125B West Water Street.

The Halloween event is a consistent hit and has grown in recent years...
