Lengthy public comment to Washington County’s school board last week suggest a November 4th fight at the high school was a melee involving 11 or more students, resulting in a hospital trip for one student who suffered an unspecified head injury.
School administrators have withheld specifics of the resulting discipline, but a WCS teacher who spoke referenced 10-day suspensions, long-term suspensions and juvenile criminal charges.
In comment Tuesday, November 18, Denise Harris acknowledged the serious nature of the incident, but insisted disciplinary actions by the school for those involved is extreme and potentially damaging for the participants.
“I don’t condone anything that was done,” Harris stressed. “All of them were wrong and they all deserve that 10-day suspension, but with the 10-day suspension and the court system and the long-term (suspension) … it’s excessive...”
