Election filings for candidates in the March 3 primary election heated up in the past week with eight additional candidates throwing their hats in the ring for local offices in Washington County.
Eight cnadidates entered the field in the first five days (December 1-5) of the filing period.
Since then, additional office seekers include:
Melinda Porter as a Democrat for County Commissioner for the At-Large seat;
Jonathan Sawyer as a Republic for County Commissioner for the At-Large seat;
Julius Walker as a Democrat for County Commissioner District 2;
Gregory Boston as a Democrat for Washington County School Board District 1;
Khandus Jackson as a Democrat for Washington County School Board District 1;
Sherri Gilliam as a Democrat for Washington County School Board District 1;
Julie Simpson as a Democrat for Washington County School Board District 2;
William Downing as a Democrat for county sheriff; and
Mike Patterson as a Republican for county sheriff.
The filing period remains open through noon Friday, December 19. The primary election is March 3, 2026, with the general election to follow November 3, 2026.
