County Commissioners got advice during public comment last week that urged Washington County not to welcome construction of data centers.
Renee Collier, the county’s senior center director, spoke as a private citizen, outlining a checklist of negative impacts — including large demand for water and electricity resources and burgeoning production of child abuse videos linked to AI — she argues makes AI (artificial intelligence) data centers an ill-advised development tool in Washington County.
In her remarks, Collier referenced recent action in Stokes County to advance a 1,000-acre data center, saying, “I am coming to present information to you that will hopefully discourage any data centers finding their way into Washington County...”
