Brandon Ambrose plies his trade as a licensed pest control technician, catering to clients across the east and solving their most press- ing vermin problems courtesy of his Coastal Pest Solutions venture.
Long before entering the pest fight- ing business, the Creswell native often dreamt of putting his passion for cars and vehicles to work for him in some capacity.
As such, after graduating from Columbia High School in 2003, Ambrose attended automotive school in pursuit of this.
“I went to college for a little bit, around two years or so for automo- tive engineering,” he recalls. “I’ve always been interested in mechanics and automotive and tinkering around with it but honestly I wasn’t too sure where it would take me or really where I wanted to go.”
Afterwards, Ambrose would join the world of corrections, courtesy of the Tyrrell Prison Work Farm, where he would serve as an officer for the next seven years.
“After about seven years of do- ing that, I decided that it was time for something new,” Ambrose says. “Honestly, it wasn’t really the career and life that I had in mind for myself. So I moved on...saw what else was out there.”As he tells it, he would eventually move to Wilmington for a time before returning home and working a series of other jobs in the interim. However in 2019, he would happen into the job that would end up shaping the course of his career.
“I moved down to Wilmington for a little bit, came back home, worked a couple of jobs here and there and long story short I ended up getting into the pest control business around 2019,” he says. “Honestly, I was just looking for another job. But I fell into the field and I found out that I really enjoyed it. I found that it was something that I was really good.”
For Ambrose, the business of extermination offered the chance to form connections with clients as well as others in the business. It also carried the unique satisfaction of being the bulwark against creepy crawlies that would rather not confront themselves.
“I think I loved communicating with the people the most,” Ambrose says of his initial experiences. “It’s been interesting, all of the friendships I’ve made… it’s been satisfying for me to be the guy that’s able to solve people’s problems. It’s always a pleasure seeing how happy your clients are after you’ve done a job and solved their issues...”
