Twin EcoExplorers Jude and Noelle Gallop took to the local brush to find all manner of wildlife and insects to document for Tyrrell County Library’s ongoing EcoExplorers program.

As the month of August is part of entomology field study and research season, the two young explorers along with their guide Laura Frazier Neitzy, Librarian Lynda Mastronardo, Brooke Gallop as well as a special guest, Jean Scahill Byrne, did their best to earn their points, document insects in their explorer notebooks and continue on their journey to earn a EcoExplore Choice award.

Before setting out, the duo gathered in the library conference room where Neitzy presented them with some helpful tools that would go a long way to find the insects and document their progress.

The EcoExplorers program provides its participants with a kit, which includes items such as a butterfly net, a trail cam, binoculars for the ornithology part of the program in particular and, specifically, clip on lenses, which would be invaluable in snapping photos of insects.

With all their tools in hand, participants find wildlife in their backyard or at designated ecoExplorer hot spots, take photos, note details of their findings and submit their observations online for documentation...
