Drivers pulling into Plymouth’s local Speedway locations last Friday were met with red tents, the smell of grilled food and kids playing in bounce houses for a celebration they might not have known was coming.
For those not in the know, Speedway, as part of the 7-Eleven convenience store brand, celebrated its National Free Slurpee Day last week.
The celebration, which is held annually on July 11, was also a celebration of the convenience store’s 98th year in operation.
As such, customers who came out to make a purchase or pulled over for some gas, were invited inside to celebrate the store’s birthday with a free 12-ounce Slurpee, a meal and some recreation courtesy of the dedicated workers outside of each establishment.
This year the chain also tried to sweeten the deal a bit by offering something a little unorthodox.
Going hand-in-hand with the Slurpees was the debut of the “Tongue-toos,” reportedly a first-of-its-kind temporary tongue tattoo that was applied by drinking a Slurpee.
Applying them was a simple as downing a Slurpee, placing the tattoo on ones tongue and waiting a few moments until a big letter “S” appeared on the tongue where the tattoo stencil was placed...
